Evening of Empowerment @ Pomeroy Hotel & Conference Centre

This year on September, Saturday 7th we will be having our 3rd Annual Evening of Empowerment, this is a unique and special event. The event is designed to create awareness of Odyssey House services and daily experiences, to help bring a better understanding to the full impacts of Domestic Violence on not only individual women and families but the Grande Prairie community as a whole.

It is also an evening of celebration, with the performance of the play “Shhhh….. It Happens… Hear!” (written by Eva Kratochvil & Kassinda Toliver, June 2018)) based on interviews of survivors of violence against women, and stories from frontline shelter workers.

The event will also feature keynote speaker Farah Mohamed, an expert in strategic partnerships, governance, communications, branding and building entities big and small, public speaking, government relations (global to local) and devising and executing innovative approaches to problem solving. As CEO, Malala Fund (Malala yousafzai), Farah led an international team to deliver on Malala’s mission to see every girl in school by in part, brokering partnerships with Apple, Citi Bank, Starbucks, Air BnB and other private and public sector partners. In 2018, Farah negotiated and managed the Yousafzai family’s first trip home to Pakistan since the attack on Malala’s life.

As Founder & CEO of G(irls)20 which was launched at the Clinton Global Initiative in 2009, Farah was among the first to elevate the argument for increasing female labour force participation with an increase in a country’s GDP. The organization cultivates a new generation of female leaders while working with G20 leaders to keep their commitment to create 100 million new jobs for women by 2025. She is also the creator of Girls On Boards. Farah has negotiated with national / federal governments in Canada, USA, France, Mexico, Russia, Australia, Turkey, China, Germany, Pakistan, Brazil and Iraq. Recognized for her service to Canada, she was awarded a Meritorious Service Medal from Canada’s Governor General and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. She has also been recognized by the Public Policy Forum (2019), London’s Top 1000 Most Influential People (2018), BBC (Top 100 Women), Women of Influence (Top 25 Most Influential Women in Canada), SALT (100 Most Inspiring Women in the World), EY (Nominee for Social Entrepreneur of the Year) and Diversity 50.
